  • BAM-ABCP Joint Webinar: Engage with the UK Parliament to Support Better Policy

  • Professors Hongbiao Dong and Sai Gu elected Fellows of Royal Academy of Engineering


    The Royal Academy of Engineering announced 72 leading figures in the field of engineering and technology as its new fellows. Two ABCP member, Professor Hongbiao Dong of the University of Leicester who is also the VP & Secretary of the ABCP, and Professor Sai Gu of the University of Warwick who was the Executive Chair of ABCP, are among the newly elected fellows.

  • ABCP 2022 Annual Conference was held on Friday 1 July and Saturday 2 July


    The ABCP 2022 Annual Conference was held successfully on 1 and 2 July, 2022 (Friday and Saturday), as a hybrid event, in the Teaching and Learning Building at the University of Birmingham, in Birmingham, UK, and online. The theme for the ABCP 2022 Annual Meeting is “International/UK-China University Collaboration in the Era of Post Covid-19”. The Conference attracted over 400 registered participants from the UK and China, and also other countries and regions. The plenary sessions in the morning include the Opening Ceremony on 1 July, and the ABCP Annual General Meeting (AGM) on 2 July. The Opening Ceremony saw a number of talks by a number of senior leaders of the higher education sectors in the UK and China and a panel discussion with the senior leaders (see here for more details of the senior leaders who attended and some selected photos). The seven parallel thematic tracks in the afternoon respectively focused on Advanced Manufacturing, Artificial Intelligence (AI), Cyber Security, Energy, Medicine & Health, Social Science & Humanities, and Sustainability & Ageing Society. Multiple tracks had one or more prizes and some researchers who attended the Conference were selected as prize winners, which include both members of ABCP and also early career researchers such as PhD students and postdoctoral researchers.   • Professor Kai Hong Luo Awarded the 2022 ASME James Harry Potter Gold Medal


    Professor Kai Luo FREng, Chair of the Energy and the Environment research group at UCL Mechanical Engineering is the recipient of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers’ (ASME) prestigious 2022 ASME James Harry Potter Gold Medal. Professor Luo received the award in recognition of his achievements in advancing the science of nonequilibrium thermodynamics across nanoscales, mesoscales and macroscales and his work developing cutting-edge physical and numerical models embodying transformational thermodynamic principles. The James Harry Potter Gold Medal recognises eminent achievement or distinguished service in the science of thermodynamics and its application in mechanical engineering. The award was established by the ASME in 1980 and is only awarded to one recipient per year. Professor Luo is the 37th winner of the award. (Adapted from UCL News)

  • Professor Daqing Ma won 2022 Andreas Hoeft Award


    In the announcement of 2022 prize winners of the European Society of Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care (ESAIC), Professor Daqing Ma FRSC MAE, Professor of Anaesthesia at Imperial College London, and Executive Vice-President of ABCP, won 2022 Andreas Hoeft Award, for “discovering the role of danger associated molecular patterns, regulated necrosis and necroinflammation in kidney injury after major surgery”. Professor Ma’s research focuses on anaesthetics, neuroprotection, kidney protection, postoperative cognitive dysfunction, and cancer cell biology. ESAIC is the leading European Organisation for Anaesthesia, Intensive Care, Pain and Perioperative Medicine.

  • International Forum on “COVID-19 and Beyond”


    ABCP and CLSSUK (Chinese Life Scientists Society in UK, 全英华人生命科学学会) jointly organised an online international forum on “COVID-19 and beyond”. Four senior researchers from the UK, US and Hong Kong gave keynote talks, and a panel discussion was held with 8 experts from different disciplines. The event was co-chaired by Professors Yi-Ke Guo and Daqing Ma, and attracted over 100 participants. A more detailed summary of the event can be found here (PDF, 7.1MB).

  • Professor Junwang Tang won 2021 Andrew Medal


    Institution of Chemical Engineers (IChemE) announced that Professor Junwang Tang FRSC, Professor of Materials Chemistry and Engineering, University College London and VP for Industrial Liaison and Fundraising of ABCP, had won the 2021 Andrew Medal, which is “awarded every three years to recognise a major contribution relevant to the science of formulation of heterogeneous catalysts” according to IChemE. This is a third major award Professor Tang has received since 2021, after his Royal Society Leverhulme Trust Senior Research Fellowship and the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) 2021 Corday-Morgan Prize.
