This page shows all events ABCP (co-)organised and will be (co-)organising. Some events (co-)sponsored or supported by ABCP may also be included.
This event is organised by the EDI Working Group of ABCP as part of its “每月一谈” (“EDI Monthly Talk”) series.
The panel discussion will be in English.
In recent years, collaboration with industry has become increasingly important for supporting scientific research and generating impact. For this EDI Monthly Talk, we are honoured to welcome Professor Xudong Zhao FREng, recipient of the 2024 International Energy Lifetime Achievement Award, and Dr Gabriela Juarez Martinez. They will share their experiences in building long-term collaborations with industry and recommend funding schemes.
Professor Xudong Zhao (赵旭东教授) is the Founding Director of the Centre for Sustainable Energy Technologies (CSET) at the University of Hull and a leading figure in the field of renewable energy and energy efficiency. Professor Zhao has established a global reputation for his work on integrating renewable energy sources into decentralised heating, cooling, and power systems, contributing to the development of low-carbon, off-grid energy solutions. His ground-breaking work has earned him a place on the 2017 list of the world’s most highly cited researchers. His contributions have been recognised with numerous awards, including the 2018 UK Rushlight Innovation Award, the 2019 Newton Prize Finalists Award, and the European Dragon-STAR Innovation Silver Award in 2015. Professor Zhao is a Fellow of Royal Academy of Engineering, the European Academy of Sciences, the Energy Institute, and the Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers, among others. He has played key roles in various national and international organisations, including the European District Heating and Cooling Technology Platform.
Dr Gabriela Juarez Martinez supports entrepreneurs in finding partners, funding, and opportunities to accelerate their innovations into real-world solutions. Her expertise in human health includes pharma and medtech, with a focus on antimicrobial resistance, the microbiome, and vaccines. Her work also extends into the animal health and environmental sectors. Gabriela has led collaborative and opportunity-finding missions to China, Colombia, Germany, the USA, and Mexico, which has nurtured international partnerships. In her previous role, she was a senior consultant; she managed industry-academic collaborations, facilitating the exchange of knowledge and resources. As a former Enterprise Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh, she leveraged this opportunity to launch her own scientific instrumentation company, which she led for a decade, achieving international sales in 24 countries.
