ABCP Webinar: Cross-border Academic Collaboration: Legal Risk and Avoidance
2 April, 2021 @ 4:30 pm - 5:30 pm BST
Title
Cross-border Academic Collaboration: Legal Risk and Avoidance
Speaker
Professor Sophia Tang (汤诤教授), Chair in Law and Commerce, Newcastle Law School, Newcastle University
Abstract
International academic collaboration brings numerous benefits to academic and research institutes, students, academic staff, countries, and the whole international community. It promotes diversity and mutual understanding, improves quality, promotes innovation, develops capacity and competitiveness, and increases international recognition and prestige. However, it is also associated with legal risks, such as taxation, intellectual property, data protection, corruption, state secrets, national security, etc., which institutes and individual academics should be aware before participating in international collaboration and partnership. This webinar helps the participants to increase the awareness of the extent of risk, to balance the risk against opportunity, and to make a rational decision.
